Rick Scott on Ukraine

Richard Lynn Scott asserts that he wants Ukraine to win the war against Russia and ultimately desires to see Russian President Putin in jail for the rest of his life. He has stated a clear position in support of providing lethal military aid to Ukraine so it can defeat Russia and push back against the invasion, viewing Russia's actions as a threat to democracy and allied security. However, his support for aid packages has been conditional, as he has consistently opposed funding measures that increase the national debt or do not simultaneously address domestic crises, such as securing the southern border or managing inflation.

His stance shows an evolution, particularly concerning aid funding mechanisms, as he voted against a major foreign aid bill in February 2024, objecting to borrowing $95 billion and noting that a portion could pay Ukrainian politicians' salaries. More recently, he has framed the path to ending the conflict under a different presidential administration as one that would bring an honorable close to the suffering, while also criticizing the previous administration's approach for allowing a stalemate. He consistently frames his support for Ukraine within an America First context, demanding that European allies must also shoulder more of the financial burden.
